Dakota and its friends and clients celebrated Dakota’s 16th year anniversary on the 16th of January 2010.   Dakota celebrated its 16th anniversary with close to 90 attendees, including employees, clients, friends and major subcontractors.  Dakota’s president, Wenbin Yuan, sang a Chinese country song and Dr. Hong Wu sang a southern China song.   Gary Vogelsong, P.E. , COO of Dakota, presented "What is Dakota?" and Mpeti Otola, CEO of Kepa Services, Inc. , presented "What is Kepa?" with introduction of their backgrounds too. Gary was a medical doctor before and Mpeti was an army officer in Iraq. Through its 16 years of hard work, Dakota delivered over $70m worth of services to a wide range of clients in construction, engineering and GIS related services.  Wenbin told the audience about the ancient Chinese story that men are dragons and women are phonixes. He also advised the audience that men and women were two different species so one side may never understand the other side.  

 

Dakota and its joint Venture Kepa Services were awarded a $4.5m Navy and Army Joint Forces Design-Build project at Sioux Falls, SD.  After providing a detailed design concept and a competitive pricing with our teaming partners: Gil Hougan and Miller Sellers, our team won the challenging design-build project.  Under the leadership of Mike Johnson, this project is getting close to finishing by July this year with furniture and infrastructure functional at delivery. 

 

Dakota Awarded Best of 2007 by McGraw-Hill    After finishing all of the liner work for a $360M Bayshore Town Center project in 2007, Dakota was awarded as Best of 2007 of Midwest Construction by McGraw Hill construction as one of the few elite in the Midwest.   Dakota continued its success in performing several more similar types of work for Charter Wire and Derse sites in Milwaukee and several operating and closed landfill sites.

 

Dakota and its teaming partner CSI successfully completed a $5.0M A.C.O.E. Ft. McCoy Design and Build Project on August 15th    Dakota was awarded a $5.0M Army Corp of Engineers military housing project in 2007 and completed the new housing portion successfully on time with its dedicated crew in severely adverse weather conditions and overcame 100 year storm that washed our base twice.

Dakota was awarded a Chicago $10m GSA IDIQ contract    Dakota was awarded a $10.0M contract for the GSA Chicago IDIQ renovation project.  Dakota is looking for some additional talented construction managers and  quality control officers who are familiar with federal projects in the Chicago area for the next five years.

Dakota ranked among top 15 largest minority contractors in the state of Wisconsin base its 2007 sales.  Dakota was ranked in the past five consecutive years as one of the top minority firms in the state of Wisconsin by the Business Journal.  Dakota ranked top ten largest minority contractors in the state.

 

Dakota hired Tom Marach with 30 years of landfill and earthwork construction experiences    Dakota hired Tom Marach to expand Dakota's landfill and earthwork services. Tom has worked on landfill construction and survey engineering for the past 30 some years for Waste Management, Veolia and several other engineering companies in Wisconsin.  Tom recently joined Dakota to become Dakota's project manager and superintendent.  Tom will also be our HR manager responsible for recruiting talented professionals in the coming years.

 

Dakota completed two methane control projects for Menomonee River Valley development projects in Milwaukee under MSI and Hunzinger Construction    Dakota has successfully completed another two large-scale methane control projects in the Menomonee Valley under Hunzinger and MSI, further expanding our liner installation and grading work capabilities.

 

Dakota praised for USDA Forest Services    Dakota was highly praised for its completion of an $800,000 window and siding replacement project for USDA Forest Services in Deleware, OH. Congratulations to Project Manager Paul Herbert and his crew.

 

Dakota completed two UST removal and new UST installation projects for WE Energies    Dakota with its competitive advantage and past performance won two contracts from WE Energies to install underground storage tanks in two locations.  Both USTs were installed to WE Energies satisfaction on time and within budget.  Todd Ormiston and Rick Kormanik led the effort to get them done in time.

 

Dakota CEO, Wenbin Yuan co-authored a History book of Milwaukee recently    A history book, Chinese Milwaukee, was published by Arcadia Publishing Company and is being sold at all major bookstores.  The book was co-authored by David Holmes and Dakota CEO, Wenbin Yuan.  Both Dave and Wenbin were interviewed by PBS TV that was aired in TV programs in November 2008.
